It will be 200 years old next year (2026)! I really hope something is done to celebrate it.
The bridge, designed by Thomas Telford, was one of the first suspension road bridges in the world.
Sadly, the Toll Keepers House is now boarded up. But, in the 1890s a family of six lived in the toll house, and they used to take the tolls for the bridge 24 hours a day seven days a week.
However, the bridge is open.
It's looked after by the National Trust and, since the lockdowns, has been free to walk over. I highly recommend it!
